Larry Murphy

University of Houston alumnus Larry Murphy has music on the mind. Graduating with a BA in Communications: Media Production, he chose to pursue a career in the music industry by enrolling in HCC’s Audio Engineering program. Upon his arrival at Tierra, Larry demonstrated his knowledge of recording technology, a sound work ethic, and a good pair of ears, securing his place at Tierra Studios. Since then, Larry has worked his way from intern to assistant engineer, with involvement in a wide variety of projects, including major location recording gigs all over Houston.

Larry is also a well-known and respected DJ in Houston. DJ’ing consistently for the past 10 years, he has established a unique sound that people enjoy on a weekly basis. Additionally, he co-wrote and released a 12″ record in 2006 on Houston’s Uniform Recordings, a internationally acclaimed dance music record label.

To record the show, I use a Shure SM7B on Shawn and an EV... [Read more]

The CD release party for Thomas Hultén’s album Slide Side was an amazing success. Many people came together at Tierra Studios from 6:00 pm until almost 10:00 pm on Monday, October 19th. There was music, mingling, food, and a few drinks floating around, as we celebrated the second release in Tierra Studios’ jazz series. We would like to extend a very special thanks to Kathryn Sherman, Jim Sherman, Traey Hatch, Glenn Wheeler, Dr. Robert Linder, Thomas Hultén, Dan Kramlich, Lana Smith, Andrea Sedeno, all the FMI staff, and everyone else that was involved in... [Read more]
