Tierra Sessions Vol. 4 – Spettro aka Edward Scott – ”Dr. Skibba”
My sister (Candace Skibba) defends her dissertation today @ Univ. of Madison, Wisconsin to obtain her Ph.D in Spanish Literature & Film. It’s been a long road and needless to say, I am so proud of her for stickin it out!
She requested I put together a few “feel good” songs for her for this monumental point in her life. I was to make sure to include the house music classic “Follow Me” by Aly-Us. I was quite surprised with this request, as she’s not really a house head. I was thinking “Dope!” -HA.
So, a couple days ago I sat down to zip some trax for her. After an hour of diggin through my library I found myself itching to make a mixtape. Many of these cuts are 90′s classics…the era we grew up as teenagers. I have vivid memories of hangin out with her at my parents house, dancing in front of the mirror, making high-fives when our favorite song would come on Dallas’ “The Edge” radio station.
1/2 way through the mix, I noticed how many party tracks I had burned through already. Keeping my “all over the place” reputation in-tact, I threw in Fela Kuti and Sister Nancy to get back to the “feel good” vibe. Then, back to the party vibe, and then onto a genre I call “comedy music”, Sagat “Fuck Dat”. Believe it or not, this was a top 40 hit in 1994 and was featured on Beevis & Butthead’s MTV show. Wow, flashbacks.
Candace’s response to the mix: ”FOLLOW ME ..[but] DON’T QUOTE ME BOY ‘CUZ I AIN’T SAYIN’ SHIT..[however] EVERYDAY I´M HUSTLIN´”
This mix is raw, and out of time in places. I am in a new place in my DJ career…now I’m thinking that sometimes raw and out of time is just perfect.

March 31, 2010 @ Rich’s. Spettro (aka Edward Scott from Tierra Studios) competing in the Red Bull Thre3 Style DJ Competition. Other contestants were some of Houston’s top party rocking DJ’s: Kyle Berg, DJ Bizz, Baby Jae, Johnny J, Flash Gordon, DJ Ebonix, GT aka GT Mayne. The energy between all of us dj’s was electric! Although we were competitors, we routed each other on like family. 1st place went to Baby Jae.
WMC 2010- last time I attended was 2004….and boy, am I glad I went this year. I made loads of great contacts, as I was pushing the Uniform Recordings upcoming releases (UNI023, Pete Dafeet “Fuzzy”, UNI027, POSR “Fix”) and POSR’s “Cocaine Nose Job” single (out now on Beatport).
Top sets:
1. Groove Armada. Holy chihuahas, I accidentally heard this amazing DJ duo two nites in a row, once at the OM party and then again the following night at Space. Groove Armada are now my favorite DJ’s….they took me on a JOURNEY.
2. Chus & Ceballos – Saturday morning at Space, on the terrace. I yet to dance that hard, for so long- in the Techno loft and the terrace (including the nite before). These guys were smiling the entire time and played the most amazing tribal and tech-house I’ve ever heard. I swear to you, I left my body.
